Mathematics and Science Partnerships RFP – Due Oct. 13

CT State Dept of Education LogoThe Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for federal Title II-B Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) grants to support teacher professional development programs. The RFP is posted on-line at http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/cwp/view.asp?a=2683&Q=320346Proposals are due on October 13, 2015.

MSP grants support partnerships among school districts, college STEM faculty and STEM education organizations to improve student achievement, interest and aspiration in mathematics and science through sustained professional development programs that enhance teachers’ content knowledge and teaching practices.

Connecticut’s MSP funding priorities focus on the classroom implementation of Connecticut Core Standards for Mathematics and the Framework for Next Generation Science Standards (National Research Council, 2012).

Professional development projects funded under this RFP will begin in early 2016 and may continue through summer 2018.

School districts may participate in MSP projects in two ways:

  1. As the Lead Partner – responsible for designing and managing a PD program; or
  2. As a Participating Partner – identifying appropriate teams of educators to participate in a program managed by another entity.

Universities and colleges may participate in MSP projects in three ways:

  1. As the Lead Partner – responsible for designing and managing a PD program; or
  2. As a Contributing Partner – responsible for leading professional learning components of a program designed and managed by another institution; or
  3. As a Participating Partner – responsible for recruiting appropriate faculty to participate in a professional learning program managed by another institution.

Nonprofit educational organizations may participate in MSP grants in three ways:

  1. As the Lead Partner – responsible for designing and managing a PD program; or
  2. As a Contributing Partner – responsible for leading professional learning components of the program; or
  3. As a Participating Partner – responsible for identifying appropriate staff to participate in a professional learning program managed by another institution.

A Bidders’ Webinar for PROSPECTIVE LEAD PARTNERS ONLY will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.  CSDE Program Managers will provide information about the RFP priorities and will answer questions about partnership formation and proposal development. A Bidders’ Webinar Registration Form (see RFP p. 16) must be received no later than Friday, August 28, 2015.
